Disclaimer: All Gargoyles characters or episodes mentioned
in this story are copywritten 1997 by Disney and Buena Vista
Television, please don't sue me. Any new characters are
property of the author, that, by the way, is me. (And if
anyone would happen to want to use them, go ahead, like I
care.) This book may not be acceptable for some audiences,
it's not really bad, but it suggests sex at the beginning,
they probably wouldn't show this on the actual series of
Gargoyles. This is the beginning of a series I am creating,
it takes place a couple of weeks after the Goliath Chronicle
"Broadway Goes to Hollywood" and goes in a completely
different direction than the actual series did, don't be
ashamed if you get confused, I did too.
Broadway voiceover: "Previously, on Gargoyles."
Brooklyn: "Parting is such sweet sorrow."
[The Journey]
Angela: "Goliath is my father?"
[Monsters]
Fox: "My son is going to be nurtured right here, with his
father, and me."
[The Gathering: Part One]
Angela: "I like all three of you, but if anything's gonna
happen, it's gonna take time."
[Turf]
The lavender gargoyle tapped her talon on the side of
the wall, she had some news for Broadway, but she was
getting impatient.
"Angela, what's wrong?" Fox came down the corridor
carrying her child, Alexander.
Angela looked at Fox and Alex and suddenly burst into
tears, Fox set Alex on the floor and comforted Angela,
"I'm sorry, was it something I said?"
Angela wiped her eyes, and stood up, "I'm sorry," she
sniffed, "I just, I need to talk with Broadway."
"Well," said Fox, looking out the window, "there he
is."
Angela watched as he glided by the window towards the
kitchen, "Fox," she said, "could you ask Broadway to meet me
in the library?"
"Sure," said Fox, lifting Alex back up, "he'll be there
soon."
Angela walked down the hallway.
Broadway opened the door of the library, looking around
for signs of Angela, "Honey?" he asked, "Are you here?"
Angela jumped off the upper book-case and in front of
Broadway, "Broadway, I have something to tell you. Remember
that night about a month ago?"
"Oh. . . my. . . ."
"What?" said Goliath looking them straight in their
eyes.
"I'm pregnant," said Angela, "and Broadway's the
father."
The blue gargoyle smiled nervously, "You said you
wanted a rookery," he said, "and we didn't really mean to,
we didn't expect to, it was our first try."
"And when were you planning to tell us?" asked Goliath.
"I just found out today," said Angela, "Goliath, it was
gonna happen sooner or later."
"Have you laid an egg yet?" asked Goliath.
"Of course not!" exclaimed Angela, "It's only been a
month, I might next week, though."
Lexington, the young, green gargoyle, was whispering
with Brooklyn, who was about Broadway's age, and crimson in
texture, "We're gonna be uncles!" exclaimed Lexington, "And
Alex'll have a playmate."
Goliath turned around angrily, "You find this amusing?"
the deep-chested gargoyle asked. The two younger gargoyles
swallowed hard and shook their heads quickly.
Goliath turned back to the couple, but they had
disappeared. He growled softly.
Bronx's ears perked up as the door opened, Angela and
Broadway stepped in and quietly closed the door behind them.
Hudson, the old, brown gargoyle, turned to greet them,
"What're yew tew doin' 'ere?'
Angela frowned, "I'm pregnant, Hudson," she said.
Hudson smiled, "Aye, lass? That's a bloomin' surprise!"
"That was Goliath's response," said Broadway.
Hudson looked confused, "Why? We'll have a rookery
again! Oh, the lad's just a little mad, it's a father, lass
thing, it's aright, he'll be over et soon enough, aye, that
'e will."
"You mind if we stay here until sun-up, Hudson?" asked
Broadway.
"Neigh," said Hudson as he picked up the remote.
One Week Later
Broadway read his book in the library, it was a book
about Greek Mythology. Angela was reading a romance novel.
She moaned softly.
Broadway jumped up, "Angela! Are you all right?"
"Broadway, I'm fine, calm down," said Angela, "It'll
come when it's ready." Angela continued reading.
Broadway picked his book up and continued reading about
Achilles' heel. Angela suddenly dropped her book and held
her stomach.
"Angela?" asked Broadway anxiously. Angela got up and
walked around, Broadway put the book down and got up,
"Angela, what's wrong?"
"My water broke," she said breathing hard, "we gotta
go."
Broadway helped Angela out of the library and down the
hall, "It's all right, Angela, everything will be fine.
Let's find Fox."
Angela was staggering around and putting her weight on
Broadway, she held her stomach and breathed hard, "Whoo!
It's a boy, all right!" she exclaimed, she suddenly
collapsed onto the floor.
"What's wrong with her?" David Xanatos, Fox's husband,
was running down the hall to Angela and Broadway.
"She's layin' an egg!" said Broadway, "Is there a
doctor we can get?"
Xanatos scratched his chin, "Maybe. . ."
Dr. Anton Servarius got out of the helicopter,
accompanied by Fox, who was piloting it. Xanatos, Goliath,
and Elisa Maza, a human detective, were running out of the
building to greet the doctor.
"Hello, Anton," said Xanatos, "though I trust you about
just as far as I can throw the helicopter you came in, I
need your help, now more than ever."
"I'm afraid I am working for Nightstone Unlimited right
now," said the doctor, "and I am unused to house-calls, but,
anything for a previous employer." Servarius smiled. Xanatos
frowned, "That's not of the concern now, doctor," he said,
"a pregnant young gargoyle is."
Angela was laying down on the floor with Fox, Brooklyn
and Broadway at her side, Lexington was on the far side of
the room looking after Alex.
Angela breathed in and out slowly, between screams of
pain and gulps of air, Broadway was pouring water into her
mouth. She was sweating terribly.
"I must inform you that I'm a geneticist, not a family
doctor," said Servarius, "but I've delivered a baby before,
so don't worry."
Xanatos put his hand on Servarius's shoulder, "If
anything happens to her or the baby-"
"I'll kill you," Broadway interrupted bluntly.
"Oh," said Servarius as he filled a needle, quite taken
aback, "I realize that not only will I lose any favour I
have left with Xanatos, but will also lose favour from my
current employer," the doctor smiled devilishly.
"Get her on a table," said Servarius, "then get some
towels and levitate her legs."
Goliath looked at Lexington, "Lexington, go get some
towels," he said. Lexington set the baby down on the floor
with a ball as he rushed out of the room.
Servarius surveyed Angela, "Her cavity has reached
about eight centimeters, but I'm not sure if that's usual
for a gargoyle."
Suddenly Alex started crying, "Owen," said Xanatos,
"get him out of here."
"No!" cried Angela, "get him out of here."
"Wait a minute," said Seravrius, "It's time, the egg's
coming!"
Angela's eyeballs nearly burst out of their sockets as
she screamed in pain, "Get him out, now!"
Goliath held her forehead, "This is odd," he said, "I
remember when Demona laid her first egg, and she wasn't in
nearly this much pain."
Elisa looked up at Goliath, "How many eggs did she
lay?"
"Three at the most," the gargoyle held his chin,
"perhaps only two."
"Sorry to break in on your conversation," screamed
Angela, "but I'm about to have a baby!"
"Push, breath, push," cried Servarius, "I see. . .
something."
Lexington met Owen Burnett, Xanatos's personal
assistant, at the door of the room, "Has she had it yet?" he
asked.Owen let Alex play with his thumb, "I believe so," he
said, "for the agonized ravings of the mother-to-be has
ceased."
Lexington smiled as he carried the towels into the
room. Angela was resting and there was a purple egg with
grey spots on the table. Suddenly Angela held her stomach
and laid down on the table.
Servarius grinned at Broadway, "Huh, twins."
"What?!" cried Broadway, rushing to his mate's side.
Goliath looked at Broadway, "Was a busy night, wasn't
it?"
Broadway smiled nervously, "Uh, yeah, maybe."
"AAAGGGGGHHHH!" Angela screamed aloud as another
contraction gave her pain, "I hate men! I hate men! I hate
men!"
Broadway held her talon in his, "It's alright, Angela,
I'm here."
"OAH!" Angela squeezed his talon as Servarius shouted,
"I see it, it's coming!"
Soon another egg was mounted on the table beside the
first. Angela had passed out.
Broadway looked at his children, "Twins, this is great,
we have twins! Goliath, we have a rookery again, isn't it
wonderful?"
"Yes," admitted Goliath, "that it is."
Suddenly Broadway jumped up and hugged Goliath tightly.
Goliath staggered a little, quite taken aback, but let his
loyal warrior embrace him, for he knew the change a child
brings to a family, all too well.
Elisa clasped Goliath's hand, "You're a grandfather,
Goliath."
Goliath couldn't help smiling at the thought of having
a rookery again. Broadway let him go and sat down beside
Angela, she was sleeping soundly, a soft smile playing along
her lips.
Lexington sat Alex upon the table with the eggs, "Look,
Alex, playmates!" The human baby hugged the eggs and giggled
at their warmth. Lex patted the egg softly, "Now all we need
is a rookery . . ." he looked up to Goliath, who looked to
Broadway, who looked to Brooklyn, who looked to Hudson. They
all realized that that's what they did need, a rookery.
The sun poured in through the stained glass windows of
the Great Hall, leaving the gargoyles stone statues. Elisa
smiled as she looked at Alex hugging the stone egg, then he
held his arms up and Xanatos took him up in his arms, "How
do we get a rookery?" he asked.
Servarius stepped quietly out the door, suddenly he
pulled a small mic from his pocket and shouted, "Now!"
Elisa turned to him, "What are you doing?"
"Shhh," said Fox, listening carefully, "what's that?"
Xanatos held his son closer, "It sounds like . . . a
helicoptor."
Owen pointed to the window, "Look!" he cried. All four
turned to see a shadowy figure coming closer to the
building.
Suddenly it crashed through the wall and knocked them
all over, including several stone figures (although, they
suffered no damage). The side door opened and five people
dressed in black flooded out and attacked them all.
Elisa pulled her gun, but it was shot away by a laser.
Owen was held by another. The next attacked Xanatos
himself. He tripped him, forcing him to drop Alex. But the
woman of the group caught the child.
Fox ran at the two standing over her husband, and
jumped upon one of them. The final man ran up behind her and
hit her across the head with the handle, rendering her
senseless.
The woman held Alex close to her, and pulled out a
small gun, pressing it against the babe's head, "One move .
. ."
Two men grabbed the eggs, and began backing with her
slowly to the helicoptor. Elisa made her move then. She
elbowed the man holding her in the stomach and knocked him
out with a blow to the head. She jumped at the woman and
took her arm with the gun. She bent it the wrong way over
her knee, and she screamed in pain. Elisa pried the baby
from her hands and ran to a safe corner, "Now, Owen!"
Owen spun around in that man's arms and was replaced by
Puck the trickster. He zoomed across the room and took out a
man holding an egg. He took the egg from him and placed it
on the table.
The man that had been holding him signalled to the
doctor by the door, "Servarius!"
Anton ran to the chopper and leapt inside, followed by
the four remaining people. Puck looked up from his
unconscious victim, "No!" he cried. He jumped forward but
was greeted by a blast from a laser cannon. He fell to the
floor, as the chopper flew away into the morning sun.
A small beep sounded from the door, "Come in."
Servarius stepped in with a man holding a stone egg,
"Angela had twins, we were only able to get one of the
eggs."
The shadowy figure looked out the window behind her
desk, "And its condition?" she asked. Servarius shrugged
admittingly, "I can't be sure, I'll have to wait until
sunset to see if it's a dud or not, but I presume that it's
an actual baby inside. I'll have to determine the sex of it
later. I'm going to judge all my tests by a reptilian egg,
is that close enough?"
"Of course," she said, "gargoyle anatomy is closer to a
reptile's than any other being. If the egg or the being
within it is damaged, I will hold you personally
responsible, Anton."
The doctor nodded, "Understood," he an the man turned
to leave.
"No," said the woman, "leave it with me, put it over
there." She pointed to a stone object by the far wall. It
had a square platform, and four stone gargoyle were forged,
one on each side, each holding a shield. Mounted on top of
their shoulders was a stone bowl, just large enough for a
gargoyle egg.
The man placed the egg in the bowl, and stepped back to
Anton, "May we go now, Miss Destine?" he asked.
The woman in the chair waved her hand, dismissing them.
They left hurriedly. She turned to look at the egg in the
bowl. She got up and went over to it, feeling the texture of
the egg, noting were every spot was, where every curve was.
She spoke softly to it, "Soon, my child, soon . . ."
Fox lifted a chair and sat down on it. Owen, who had
returned to his human form, gave Alex to his mother, she
patted the sleeping child's back.
Xanatos was helping Elisa lift the statues of the
gargoyles upright, he had to help her with Goliath, "What do
you think they'll say?" he asked her.
"Goliath will try and hunt down the people who took
it," she said, "That's almost certain. Angela and Broadway
will mourn for a while. Lex and Brooklyn will try to comfort
them. Hudson will try to talk Goliath out of the vengeance
thing, and Bronx won't notice."
Xanatos smiled as he put Brooklyn on his feet, "You
seem to know a lot about your friends."
Elisa and Xanatos lifted Angela back onto the table, "I
should, they're my best friends."
Fox stood up and walked over to them as they stood
Bronx upright again, "How will we tell them the news?" she
asked. Elisa stepped up boldly, "I'll tell them, they're my
responsibility."
Xanatos looked to her, a surprised look on his face,
"I've never heard you put it that way before," he said, "I
always imagined you as simply their guide to this new
world."
"On a tour," said Elisa, "if someone gets hurt, the
guide will be sued."
"You make your point very clear," Fox smiled.
Owen lowered his glasses, "This conversation will have
to continue later," he said, "Your friends will be awake
soon." He pointed to the darkening windows.
Elisa turned away from the family and walked up to the
stone statue of Goliath, waiting for the moment.
The sun disappeared.
Elisa's eyes filled with unwanted tears as cracks began
to spread over the statue's body. First Goliath's eyes shone
white light, then his wings spread, flinging stone fragments
everywhere, then he shook so the stone skin flailed about
and dispersed from him.
He looked down at Elisa, "Elisa, what is wrong?" he
inquired.
"No!" Goliath and Elisa turned to see Angela holding
onto one egg tightly and Broadway embracing her, both with
tears in their eyes.
"He's gone! He's gone, Goliath!" cried Angela. Hudson
walked over and patted her shoulder, he looked up at
Xanatos, "What happened?" he demanded.
"It was Servarius, he called in a team and they took
one of the eggs," he explained, "I'm so sorry, we couldn't
do anything."
"Well," said Fox, "Let's look on the bright side, they
only got one of the eggs. Obviously, they were aiming for
both. Do you think Servarius has ties with the Quarrymen?"
she asked.
"No," said Brooklyn, shaking his head, "If that was
true they probably would have killed all of us while they
took the egg."
Hudson scratched his beard thoughtfully, "Aye, the
Quarrymen are in this fight to exterminate gargoyles, not
hit and run as they did today."
Lexington sat on the table, thinking hard, he snapped
his fingers, "Nightstone!" he cried. All looked at him with
curious faces. He explained, "Servarius is working for a
company called Nightstone, that's where he went once he quit
Gen-U-Tech. One sec, I'll be right back." Lex jumped off the
table and ran out the door, he returned in a short time
carrying his laptop computer. He typed in some things for a
minute and smiled, "Just as I thought, Nightstone is run by
a woman named Dominique Destine."
Elisa looked up at Goliath, "That was the name Demona
used when she was trying to get MacBeth's money in Paris."
"And Nightstone was the company that developed the CV-
1000 carrier virus," said Xanatos.
"So you think that Dominique Destine is Demona's human
alter-ego?" asked Broadway, still holding Angela's quivering
hand.
"Yes!" exclaimed Lexington, "and she probably got
Servarius to steal the egg and bring it to her."
Elisa caught on, "Of course! Demona has been unable to
get Angela on her side, so she's going to raise her
grandchild as her own."
"So what do we do?" asked Brooklyn, "She's got an army
of people behind her, it's not like we could just walk in
there and demand that she return it."
"What if we charged her with theft?" asked Fox, "We
could say that the egg was a priceless artifact from
Scotland."
"That still wouldn't work," said Owen, "There would
remain many unanswered and complicated questions."
"We'll go ourselves," said Goliath, who had not said
anything for quite some time, "We'll go in and take the egg
back by force."
"Are you sure that's a good idea, lad?" asked Hudson.
"Yes! We will go and take the egg back immediately,
before she has time to make better defences, I will tolerate
this no more!"
Goliath turned and ran out the room, Lexington and
Brooklyn followed him, "Goliath," said Brooklyn, "I think
Broadway and Angela should stay here this time . . . in case
. . . something goes wrong."
"Agreed," Goliath stated.
"Goliath," said Lex, "They've probably already got a
really good security system, and I'm not sure if I'll be
able to get past it."
"We'll force our way into the building, we'll take the
egg, and get out before anyone has time to catch us. Just in
and out."
"But we don't know where the egg is," said Lex.
"We can find out the same way we found out where Maggie
was when we raided Gen-U-Tech," Brooklyn suggested.
"Let's be going, then," said Goliath, climbing the
stairs to the top of his battlement. Brooklyn held his arm,
"Just us?" he asked.
"Just in and out, remember?" Goliath spread his massive
wings and jumped into the night, Brooklyn and Lexington
followed.
Demona ran her claw along her arm soothingly, she had
finished her transformation. She turned to the egg on the
other side of the office. She kicked away the remains of her
shoes and walked over to it. Without shedding an skin, the
egg had turned back to its normal state.
She picked up a small device from her desk, "Servarius,
get in here," she said into it.
The doctor walked into the office in only a few
seconds, "What is it?"
"Increase security, Goliath should be coming soon,"
Demona ordered. Servarius turned and exited the office.
Demona turned back to her egg, "I will protect you, my
child."
Lexington opened the skylight and peered in through the
darkness. Brooklyn gently pushed him aside and made to go
in, but Lexington grabbed his tail and pulled him back in.
"What was that for?" demanded Brooklyn in whispers.
"There's going to be some kind of security in there,
I'm guessing a laser grid. And I know how to get past them."
Lex looked around the room and spotted a fire
extinguisher below the skylight, he reached down and pulled
it up,
"See, easy." He sprayed it over the room, and
shimmering streaks of light could be seen all over the room.
"Hmm, I wonder if that's it. There's a computer over there,
I'll go down through the laser grid and try to find out
where the egg is."
Brooklyn nodded, "OK, go ahead."
Lexington nodded and climbed down the wall, he crawled
along the floor until a beam blocked his way. He looked
around. He climbed onto a chair and hopped over the beam,
then he scurried along the floor to the computer, and sat
down. He accessed a blueprint of the entire building and
clicked on "FIND." A small box appeared and he typed in
"GARGOYLE+EGG." The computer responded with "1 FILE FOUND."
The blueprint reappeared and a room shone yellow. Lexington
moved the mouse to the room and double-clicked.
A security image appeared and Lexington saw Demona
staring out the window behind a desk. On the far side of the
room he saw the egg.
He turned to Brooklyn with a thumbs-up signal and
smiled, "Got it! Uh-oh." He couldn't see a laser in the
room.
Brooklyn shrugged, "Sorry," he said.
Lexington looked at him angrily for a moment but
climbed onto the table and up to the ceiling. He dug his
claws in hard and slowly made his was along the ceiling. He
made it to the skylight and hopped out alongside Brooklyn.
"I found it, it's down a little." Lexington jumped off the
roof and glided down with Brooklyn close behind him.
"What should we do, Goliath? Goliath?" Brooklyn turned,
but the leader was no longer present.
Demona sat at her desk and tapped her talon impatiently
on it. Something was wrong, they were taking too long.
She had anticipated the attack to begin soon after
sundown with the entire clan. But it was nearly midnight and
still her guards had seen no sign of Goliath or the others.
Suddenly her ears perked up, something was coming from
outside. Oh, well, it was probably just a bird or something.
But it was getting louder.
"AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!"
That didn't sound like a bird. Demona sprang up and
turned to see Lexington and Brooklyn emitting soft battle-
cries. They burst through the soundproof glass. Brooklyn
pounced on Demona while Lexington went after the egg.
Demona pushed Brooklyn away, "NO!!!!!" She ripped open
a desk drawer and pulled out a gun. She pushed the clip in
and fired at Lexington. He dodged and went headlong into the
stand with the egg on top. It fell into his arms.
"Brooklyn, I got it, let's get out of here!" cried
Lexington. Brooklyn jumped out the window as Lex hurried to
join him.
Demona threw the gun down and picked up a remote
control. She pressed a button and a metal grid went across
the window. Brooklyn gasped from outside.
Lexington screeched to a halt, "Uh-oh."
"If you give me the egg now, I won't hurt you," said
Demona.
"No! It doesn't belong to you!" cried Lexington.
Brooklyn reached through the grid and grabbed Demona's
collar, pulling her back. She struggled as Brooklyn shouted,
"Get out!"
Lexington needed no further bidding, he looked around
for an escape route. He pulled an air vent from the wall and
scurried inside.
Demona turned and bit Brooklyn's arm. He yelled in pain
and released her. She threw the arm through the grid and ran
for the vent.
Lexington scurried through the vent clutching the egg
at his side. He came to several forks in the tunnel and took
spontaneous routes, knowing that Demona would have subdued
Brooklyn by now and trying to get her off his trail.
By now he had no idea where he was. Finally he came to
a vent leading outside. He pushed it off and called to
Brooklyn, "Brooklyn? Brooklyn, where are you?" he shouted.
Soon the crimson gargoyle glided towards him, "What do
you want?" he demanded angrily.
"Take the egg, I can't glide with it because of my
wings, I'll keep on going through the building while you get
back to Wyvern." Lexington explained.
Brooklyn took the egg and left Lexington. Lexington
turned and continued through the network of tunnels.
Demona climbed through the tunnels, she continually
found evidence that Lexington was still in the building:
claw marks, dented walls, and bent bars. She grabbed a ledge
and pulled herself up, there was a open vent up ahead, she
screamed in rage, she had lost the egg, he was outside now,
and it would be very hard to track him.
She looked up the tunnel. "Claw marks?" she whispered
to herself. She crawled up the tunnel a little, another set
of marks. And father up was a dent in the wall. He was still
in the building. She smiled devilishly. Obviously he was
trying to make her go outside so that he could make a clean
getaway.
She smiled again and crawled up the tunnel. She heard a
scratch on the metal, he was close and had taken a route to
the right. She envisioned the blueprints of the building,
and smiled. Dead end. [AUTHOR'S NOTE: Allow me to emphasize
the "dead" in "dead end."]
She turned to the left, she wanted to make it
interesting.
Lexington, however, had no clue where the tunnel would
lead, he crawled through it, stealth was not his strong
point, he knew this, and he knew that no matter how many
turns he made, he knew that Demona would be hot on his tail.
Lexington gasped in horror, a wall stood in front of him, he
punched it. It withstood the blow.
"Damn!" he cried. And sat down, waiting for a
confrontation with Demona. He went through in his mind all
possible ways it would end. He sighed, "I'm dead."
Nothing happened. He creased his eyebrows, what was
going on? He smiled, maybe she had followed Brooklyn, he
would have a better chance of beating her than Lexington
did.
He nearly laughed aloud. Suddenly the wall beside him
burst open and Demona rolled out, she looked him over,
"Where is it? Where's the egg?!" she demanded.
Lexington was very surprised, "Uhh. . .uhh." he
stuttered.
Demona backhanded him savagely, "You gave it to
Brooklyn, didn't you, and he brought it home, didn't he? You
will die." She rose her talons to strike him.
Suddenly the floor beneath him seemed to open up and
swallow her. Lexington looked down the hole to see Goliath
giving it to Demona.
Lexington jumped down alongside Goliath. He grabbed
Demona's legs and threw her over his head. She landed with a
thud down the corridor.
Goliath turned to Lexington, "Where's the egg?" he
demanded.
"Brooklyn's got it, let's go!" he begged.
Goliath tore at the wall until it gave way. The two
jumped out into the night with Demona staggering towards
them.
She collapsed in a heap in the middle of the corridor
as the two glided towards the Eyrie Building.
Lexington turned to Goliath, "Where were you, Goliath?"
he asked.
"I went after Servarius, and I intended to meet you at
the office. I couldn't find him, so I went to the floor
beneath the office so that I could get at the egg from
below, but when I got there, you were gone. Brooklyn told
me where you would be so I went below again to stop Demona
from getting to you, I was nearly too late."
Lex smiled, "Thanks."
Demona got up and stared out the hole in the wall,
lucky for her, Dominique had anticipated this and had gotten
some . . . hired help.
Jackal smiled as he magnified the image of Goliath and
Lexington, "It's Goliath and the little one," he said, "but
they don't have it."
Hyena stepped up beside him, "I just got a call from
Nightstone, she says that the red one's got it."
Jackal looked at his sister, "But the red one isn't
there."
"Then we have to find him," Hyena's reasoning was
grossly simple. They ignited the rockets merged to their
backs and flew into the night.
Brooklyn glided towards the castle mounted on top of a
skyscraper. He sighed, no trouble at all. Suddenly a laser
blast whizzed by his head, he turned. Jackal and Hyena! He
dove for the ground and veered through the opening by the
landing pad. Hyena was on top of him in a moment. She gave
him multiple blows to the back of the head until he turned
and smacked her across the face with the egg. Jackal
rocketed up above Wyvern, then dove at Brooklyn. The hit
knocked the egg from the gargoyle, but Hyena flew down and
retrieved it.
There was a hollow sound and hyena turned to see a
small green creature flying at her at break-neck speed.
Lexington grabbed her hair and pulled her to the wall, he
let go and body-checked her.
Goliath wasn't far behind, he glided in and punched
Jackal full in the cybernetic face. He went head over heels,
but regained himself and shot a cable around Goliath.
Goliath screamed in pain as electrical energy pulsed
through the cable. He fell for a moment, but opened his huge
wingspan and caught the current, allowing him another shot
at the insane cyborg.
Hyena held her head in pain, and looked at Lexington,
who was helping Brooklyn off the landing pad floor.
She shot a net from her arm that entrapped the
gargoyle. He rolled over and Hyena took the chance to attack
her defenseless prey. Brooklyn jumped aside as her razor-
sharp fingertips buried themselves in the floor. Brooklyn
glided in and kicked her, detaching her arm. Lexington
ripped through the net and roared, he grabbed her arm and
pulled it out of the ground, then, taking the wrist, he
batted her continuously across the face.
Brooklyn watched, scratching his beak, "And who said
creativity is dead?" he muttered.
Goliath shouldered Jackal from behind, knocking the
wind out of him momentarily. The cyborg turned, "I thought
gargoyles were supposed to fight with honour." He sneered.
"Honour is something you know nothing about, Jackal,"
rasped Goliath.
Blades sprung from jackal's fingers. He swiped a
Goliath, who dodged and backhanded him across the back of
the head.
Hyena kicked Lexington aside and rocketed away from
Brooklyn, "We have what we came for, let's book!" she
clutched the egg to her chest and zoomed away. Jackal swiped
and cut Goliath's face, and then flew off after his sister.
Lexington was about to give chase but Brooklyn put his
hand on his shoulder, "You won't be able to catch them."
Lexington sighed, "I know . . ."
Goliath alighted on the launch pad, holding his face.
Lexington held his arm, "You should get something on that,
Goliath. Angela will know what to do."
"Aye," Goliath agreed, wiping his bloody hand on his
leg. Brooklyn and Lexington escorted their leader inside.
Angela wiped a tear from her eye as she administered
iodine to Goliath's wounds, Goliath couldn't help feeling
sorry for his daughter, "Angela, I'm sorry . . ."
The gargoyle sniffed, "It wasn't your fault, father, it
wasn't Lexington or Brooklyn's either. You did all you could
to save our children, and for that I am grateful."
Broadway looked at the floor, holding the remaining egg
beside him, he sniffed sadly. He patted the egg, "Well, at
least we have you," he said.
Hudson shook his head in pity as he watched the clan
carry on with their actions, he turned to Elisa, "We should
hide the remaining egg, just in case Demona tries to steal
it as well."
Lexington looked up from his stance of all fours,
"Could we build a rookery beneath Eyrie?" he asked.
Hudson shrugged, "Well, we'll need a rookery some time
or another," he said.
Bronx growled fitfully, Brooklyn scratched him behind
his ears, "I know, boy, we're all sorry for them."
"Is Goliath going to try again?" Elisa asked, "or are
we giving it up for lost?"
"No," Broadway spoke from the table, "We'll find it,
and we'll take it back, if not today, tomorrow, or the next
day, I won't ever give it up."
Dominique Destine fastened her belt on as she watched
the sun rise, she turned to look at the egg, then to Jackal
and Hyena, "Here," she pulled a briefcase from below her
desk and put it on her desk, she opened it up and turned it
toward the siblings, "Two million dollars in unmarked bills,
that is my price for the egg."
Hyena licked her lips and closed the briefcase, "Sold!
To the lady with the wings and tail."
Dominique creased her eyebrows, "Right now, I am
Dominique Destine, Demona lives and dies with the night."
"Yes," Jackal nodded, "We don't really care, we'll be
leaving now. Oh, here you go."
He deposited the egg into the holder, now placed
directly in front of her desk, Hyena bit her lip, "It
was a little cracked, you're sure you want it?"
"It will heal," she said, "You have what you came for,
now go!"
Hyena and Jackal left without further conversation.
"I love you, my precious, and I will protect you."
